I keep a private desk for Jyotisha. Two steps. First the chart is calculated from a timestamp and a place. Then it is read: which patterns are active, which have cancelled, and which time ruler is in force.
This is research with a closed report trail. Private prototypes only.
Calculation
Given a civil time and a location, the desk produces a classical chart:
- Nine grahas and the lagna
- Whole-sign houses
- Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa
- Panchanga fields for the moment
- Vimshottari dasha as a clock over the natal chart
- Transits (gochara) against that natal
Same inputs have to yield the same chart. I treat the sky as a function of time and place, then freeze the output so a later reading can be replayed.
Reading
Classical texts describe yogas as combinations that exist or do not. A raja yoga is present, or it is gone. Cancellation (yoga bhanga) removes a yoga from the active set.
Dasha is the time ruler. A transit is read under the period that is running. A harsh transit in a supportive dasha is a short difficulty inside a good stretch. A helpful transit in a hard dasha is relief. Those two facts sit on the desk as a pair.
Muhurta, gochara, dasha, ashtakavarga, and prashna answer different questions. Each tool keeps its own inputs and its own output shape. I run them separately and look at the set they produce.
The reading I want is the list of what is active together, plus the clock. A single weighted score flattens that list.
Validation
The claim worth testing is narrow: whether these deterministic rules carry out-of-sample information on historical event series, after costs, placebos, and multiple-testing correction.
I have a harness for that. Walk-forward splits, permutation tests, sign-flips and lagged controls, Holm-style correction. Every study starts from the same null: the signal is empty.
